so this weekend was pretty kick ass.

Wednsday i went up to LA for the CIMS convention. we stayed at the Hyatt on sunset. that night we got all walked down to the Rainbow and had dinner. when i got to the end of the line i turned around and there was Lemmy from Motorhead. He was all dressed up in his green german army hat and jacket. halfway through dinner he left and about hour or so later he comes back with a different hat and jacket on. dude went home to change. best thing is he spent all night playing video poker.

thursday we had meetings all day. then at night we went to el compadre for dinner. really good food and even better margaritas. best part was it was all free. got on a bus and then went to amoeba for a tour. we got to go into the back and see how they run the place and got to meet up with the cool employees. they hooked us up with a tote bag full of goodies and then we all shopped. I picked up Afghan Whigs “up in it” on orange vinyl as well as a Queens of the Stone Age vinyl called “Songs From Amsterdam”. It has a bunch of B-Side tracks from the Rated R album and a bunch of live tracks. Then we all went back to the hotel bar and drank and talked shop.

friday was a short day of meetings. we had a meet and greet coctail party with a bunch of industry folks from 4-6. there i got to meet some fine people from the management company for foo fighters, beck, tenacious d, ryan adams and queens of the stone age. i talked with them for a while and said, “any promotion you wanna do for the new QOTSA album, just let us know and we’ll be glad to do it.” told em i’m a huge fan and they asked if i wanted a copy of the record to listen to and play in the store. I of course jumped at the offer. at 6 we went over to the Rainbow again for dinner with our Sony/BMG rep jason. We had a great time and skippy got wasted and was taking pictures of everyone there. went back to the hotel and listened to the Queens album till the hotel came up and told us to turn it off. it was like 1 in the morning at that time.

saturday a few more meetings then on a bus again to ventura. we visited the CIMS store Salzer’s. It’s a great store. 2 levels with music downstairs and everything else upstairs. across the street is their video store and down the street is the offices. there we had a party, amazing food and you guested it. more drinks.

sunday we drove home and i had to work at the store. got to listen to the QOTSA album all day long. played it in the store and had 4 people ask who it was even though we were only on track 5. i think the record is going to kick ass and sell a bunch. I think everyone who likes queens will love it and people who don’t know about em yet will check em out. great album. too bad no one believe i really have it.

will be back djing this wednsday at the zombie lounge then got a show on thursday at the ken club. friday pdx and erica are coming over and we’re going to drink a bunch of wine. we’ve decided to have a thing where we each bring a bottle of wine over and make a log of what wine is good and what wine sucks. looking forward to starting this off.
