I love this time of year

Posted in Hockey, Videos on September 23rd, 2008 by Drewvis - No Comments

When the leaves start changing, it gets darker earlier in the evening and there is a weird chill in the air you know there is one thing coming. And that is HOCKEY SEASON!!! I love this time of year cause you get a bunch of things, not just hockey. You get Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and all that good stuff. Since it’s always “perfect” weather in SoCal it’s nice to have things chill out a bit. Wish it would get colder and rain more this time of year is just doesn’t. The thing I love most is hockey though. You get one of the fastest most energetic sporting event around.

At the beginning of the season you get to see some of the young players the teams have in their “system” meaning you get to see what is to come in a few years. You get to know names of players that might not be playing in the NHL for a few more years if at all. But you get to see some pretty great talent before if blossoms. If your a Los Angeles Kings fan you also get Frozen Fury in Las Vegas. Jordan, Elvia and I went last year and it was a blast. We go to Vegas quite a bit, but I think we all agree that was our most exciting trip. And here it is the end of September and we’re going again. This time with Jase and Geri. I’m looking forward to the time sitting in the pool and hot tub. The dinner and drinks at both the Hofbräuhaus and Shibuya. The times spent at the craps table and late, late night hovering over the video poker. Most of all, I’m looking forward to the Kings game while wearing my Kings jersey. Of course most of the things we’ll be doing I’ll be in my jersey.

You win some, lose some, it’s all the same to me

You all remember my New Years Eve this year where I got to party with Nashville Pussy, Reverend Horton Heat and Lemmy from Motorhead right? If you don’t you can read about it here. Motorhead just released their newest album “Motorizer” on the 26th of August and it’s their 19th studio album. I won’t describe the album cause it’s fuckin Motorhead. You know what it’s going to sound like. Like Lemmy said, “Go and listen to it and then you’ll know yourself. You don’t need me to tell you about it.”

Anyway, I went to see them at the House Of Blues on the 3rd of September with my buddy Ivy. She’s a huge Motorhead fan and LOVES Lemmy. After the show I was all inspired to play music again. I looked up something online about the band and came across a website www.lemmymovie.com which is a bio pick on the one and only Lemmy Kilmister. I never really knew who Motorhead was when I was growing up. I knew they are pretty popular and were a metal band but knew nothing more than that. Then late one night I was watching the fuse tv channel and they played the video for “Eat The Rich” and I was blown away. Almost as much as I was when I first saw the video for Alice In Chains video for “Would?” I had to find out more about this band and the singer who was just bad ass. You could tell he lived the life rather than only on weekends. Dave Grohl says in the Lemmy movie trailer “He is the baddest motherfucker in the world.” and you know what, I would have to agree. There is just something about this guy that makes you worship him. There are urban legends going around out there about how Lemmy was doing coke off a strippers chest while he had a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand and a smoke in the other. There is some sort of mystery around this guy, but at the same time he seems like the type of guy you can just walk up to and have a drink with. And he is.

So the show was amazing, got my ears blown out by the wall of amps and got to see a true legend do what he does best. What they do is so simple just so powerful at the same time. It makes you want to live the life of a true rocker. A life that involves playing music, getting women, doing drugs and drinking a lot, I mean a lot of Jack Daniels. If you’ve never seen Motorhead live you have to. Even if you’re not a huge fan of the music you at least got to see Lemmy in person. You’ll never forget the first day you see a true legend still giving it their all and going the same speed they were when they started it all. There will only be one rock god for all to know and love and his name is Lemmy.

Interview with the Reverend Horton Heat.

Posted in Music, Music Reviews on September 5th, 2008 by Drewvis - No Comments

The Reverend Horton Heat played a private party at the House Of Blues in San Diego. The truly special part of it all is the fact they did an all acoustic performance, the first and probably last time the band will do something like this. As part of the even I was asked by spin.com to do an interview with the band and shoot some clips from the show. So here’s what came of the evening. The only bad part is the videos are backwards meaning it starts with the end of the night video first. click on “shows” and then scroll to the one titled “rev intro”.
