Movember

Posted in Charity, Life on November 1st, 2011 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

Movember is the month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Men grow a Mo (moustache) for 30 days to become a walking, talking billboards, for our men’s health causes – specifically cancers affecting men.

Men who support Movember, called Mo Bros, start by registering at Movember.com. Mo Bros start Movember 1st clean-shaven, then grow and groom their Mo, for the rest of the month, raising money along the way. Women who support Movember, called Mo Sistas, also start by registering at Movember.com. Mo Sistas champion the Mo by supporting their Mo Bros, organizing events, leading a team and spreading the important message of men’s health.

I went ahead and signed up for a Movember account. You can donate to my account by using the link below. It’s for a good cause so please feel free to donate today.

5 months

Posted in Life on November 1st, 2011 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

At one time I wanted to move to Seattle to kind of get a fresh start. Thought I’ll never know what I may have missed out on had I moved up there, I’m completely happy that I stayed as I’ve got an amazing girlfriend, awesome job and perfect family. It’s been 5 months since I started my job at Stone Brewing Co. I have no complaints about it and love every minute I’ve spent with em so far. I love Lauren more and more every day. It’s great seeing my niece grow so fast and seeing her experience and do things she’s never done before. It’s coming into my favorite time of year and I can’t wait to spend the holiday season with Lauren.

Just figured I’d do an update as it’s been a while.

Stone Brewing Co.

Posted in Life, Wine/Beer on June 21st, 2011 by Drewvis - 2 Comments

So, as you all know I love beer. Well, I went and got me a dream job working for none other than Stone Brewing Co. out of Escondido. I’ve been there for about a month now and I’ve loved every minute of it. Started out getting trained at the brewery for a couple weeks working in the Company Store filling growlers and selling merch. All of this was in preparation for the opening of a new satellite store located in the South Park community of San Diego proper. Ever since I first heard about the South Park location I’d wanted to work there. After not getting call backs from a couple other breweries in San Diego I never figured I’d get the job with Stone.

Fast forward to tomorrow and we have the official Grand Opening of the new store. There’s going to be some pretty great beers both at the store and around the South Park area both in bottles and on tap. For a full listing of what’s going on head of to the San Diego Beer Blog. Hope you will come by and check out the store, if not tomorrow then sometime soon, as it’s a pretty relaxed place to talk beer and such. You also can’t beat four 4oz tasters for $5 and you get to keep the glass.

Renewable energy, the final frontier

Posted in Life, Politics on April 15th, 2011 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

My dad had posted this on facebook and it’s a really good question:

Interesting morning..When responding to an email question from a citizen during an interview with George Stephwhateveropolis regarding gas over $4/gal and rising, Mr. Obama in essence said that he understands the pain, not to worry, you’re getting tax cuts to offset the price. I’m getting gas TODAY, what tax cut do I use?

here’s my response:

You should ask the republicans who are in the pockets of the oil industry why our gas is so high. and democrats for that matter. Any time an alternative energy bill or idea is brought up the oil industry and their paid puppets (in any branch of the govt) shoot it down as saying it’s too costly or we don’t need it yet every year the oil industry gets more and more money. Then they trickle that money down to stimulate… the price of gas.

So what’s everyone’s thoughts on this? Should we focus on renewable energy and try and get the USA to be a self sufficient country that runs on solar, wind and hydro electricity and hybrid or electric cars? Yes it will take a while and money to get things rolling but think of the long term. Imagine what the US could do if the citizens were no longer paying an average of $3.791 per gallon of gas as of 4/11/11, $4.161 in California, which is up 0.933 from last year. They would be spending that money on other things like food, medical insurance or just to better their way of life.

Detroit is getting a RoboCop statue thanks to crowd-sourced funding. I wanna know when San Diego is going to be getting a Ron Burgundy statue?

Slacking

Posted in Hockey, Life on January 10th, 2011 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

I wanted to have a little more posting in 2011, but I’ve not started off on the right foot here. So here’s a brief post about my thoughts on the past few weeks and how things look in the future. They’ve been strange to say the least. Lots of good time spent with family and friends. The Fink Bombs recording should be done this week and I sure as hell hope we can have em done in time for the RHH show on Feb 5th at Disneyland (aka HOB Anaheim). Ladies are still confusing and I don’t think men will ever figure them out, at least not this man especially if I continue to be as nice to em as I have. Some good shows coming up, but I’m probably going to miss a majority of them. I have no idea what the future holds for me and it’s looking to be a very interesting future to say the least. When I thought things were beginning to settle down they get turned upside down again. But enough of that, here’s to the signing of Jack Johnson by the Kings and look forward to them locking down Drew Doughty soon as well. Tonight is the first Kings game of 2011 I’ll be attending and I’m glad Jordan is going as well. It’s not the same watching hockey without em.

2010/2011

Posted in Life on January 4th, 2011 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

So 2010 is over with and 2011 is here. Not really sure it means a lot cause like O said, “Why don’t we celebrate the beginning of the month like we do new years?” or something like that. I always see New Years as just that, another day that doesn’t really mean much. Yeah it’s a new year, but it doesn’t wipe the slate clean like everyone hopes it does. I’m just glad that this year I got to spend the evening pretty much chilling with great friends and not out at a bar.

2010 has some pretty amazing events happen and I’m glad for every good and bad experience I had the past year. It’s all made me a better person and it’s not something I could ever change so why be bummed on the bad stuff? I finally made it to Vancouver to hang out with my buddy Sara and new friend Selena as well as spend time in Seattle with my buddy Matt. Got to see amazing shows such as Faith No More, Saint Vitus, Obits, Night Marchers and a Hot Snakes reunion (even if it was only three songs) as well as many others I can’t remember off the top of my head. I became an uncle for the first time, got a place of my own, paid off a lot of my debt and just had a blast. I started a new band and got a recording done in only a few hours. There were some down times as well, but we tend not to remember those things as well as we do the good so I’ll just say I’m glad those times are over with.

2010 ended on a great note and ushered in a good starting point for 2011. All that stuff I talked about at the beginning of the post about it not meaning much with the changing of the year, I still believe that, but I still think the last few weeks have been pretty great. The holiday season always brings the best out of everyone and spending time with friends and family reminiscing about the past year and what you want to do with the coming year is always fun. So to all you out there in internet land, Hope you had a good 2010 and look forward to sharing a lot of my life with you in 2011.

ps. yes that’s Snooki in a huge hamster ball. What better way to represent the end of times than with a photo like that? hahaha
