National Parks…

Posted in Life, TV on March 3rd, 2010 by Drewvis - No Comments

Watching the Ken Burns National Parks documentary on KPBS. It makes me want to rent an RV and drive around this beautiful country of ours. Only been to Yosemite so far in my life, and I got so much more to see. There is so much beauty in the US, but we forget about it or don’t think about it cause we don’t take the time to sit back and enjoy it. I think one of the next places I want to visit is the Redwood National Park. It’s crazy to think that when they first became a National Park, 85% of the forest had already been logged and only half of what remained was set up as a National Park.

Last year when we went to Joshua Tree for some camping it made me want to do even more. Just to get out in nature and get away from it all is the best thing you can do for yourself. Even just getting out into nature and going on a hike will clear your head. Hell, last week when I was feeling down I took a “personal day” and went outside for a few hours and weed whacked the shit out of our front yard. Who would of thought doing “work” outside on a beautiful day would be so cleansing of the soul. Back when I was a kid, I wanted nothing to do with being outside working. And with that, the city of San Diego is planning to turn the Plaza De Panama in Balboa Park back into a pedestrian area and remove all the parking and traffic in the area. There are lots of people who are against it cause they feel the parking is needed cause they don’t want to walk their fat asses too far to get to the museums. How could you not want one of the most beautiful areas of San Diego changed from a parking lot into a large open area where you can sit an enjoy the day? I understand the handicap spaces need to be saved and I’m completely cool with that, but for all you other fat asses you need to stop complaining. Yeah that sounds kinda harsh, but it’s true. You don’t want beauty for your city cause you don’t want to walk any further to get to the museums?

I’m gonna get a bike soon so I can ride around the town and enjoy my weekends. Being able to ride a bike from my home to Balboa Park, around North/South Park, maybe even down along the bay any given day is something I now look forward too. A year ago I never would of thought this would be enjoyable. Now I can’t wait to do it. If anyone has a good suggestion for me on a good bike to get, I’d appreciate it.

Olympic sized FAIL by NBC.

NBC Fail

NBC is horrible when scheduling what Olympic event they are showing and at what time. For example, they make a big deal about the Russia vs Czech Men’s hockey game which started at noon yet they show it at 3pm. At the same time the biggest game for North America, the US vs Canada Men’s hockey game, is shown live at 4pm. WTF were they thinking? 2 of the biggest games being shown at the same time even though they were staggered by the Olympics so people could watch both. This isn’t the first time they’ve messed up either cause all of the games up to this point have either been cut to mid way through or they make the viewer change stations mid way through a period but it’s not seamless cause when you get to the new station they are still finishing up with what was already being shown on that station. Not to mention they don’t take TV timeouts in international play so when they come back to the game from commercial you’ve missed parts of the game.

I understand that there are so many different events going at the same time, but you have like 5 different channels showing stuff yet you still delay showing em so you can get better ratings. Meanwhile all the news agencies around the world post the results of who won which metals and takes the excitement out of the Olympics.

First they fuck up the Tonight Show with giving it back to Leno, now they destroy the Olympics. Massive FAIL on their part.

We need hockey In San Diego!!!

Posted in Hockey, TV on March 26th, 2008 by Drewvis - No Comments

Lord Stanley’s Cup Ok, it’s pretty sad that Cox Cable in San Diego doesn’t have FSN Prime Ticket in their channel lineup. I’ve asked them a few times to add it to their lineup and they say there isn’t enough demand for it. I’m asking you guys to help show them they need to add it. I can’t watch any of the games when they are not on FSN West and it pisses me off. I emailed them today asking again to add it to their lineup and to not forget about all the hockey fans in San Diego County. Here is what i sent to them…

Can you please add FSN Prime to your lineup? Everyone in my household are huge fans of hockey. Right now you only offer FSN West which play a majority of the Kings games, but not all. FSN Prime not only plays the few Kings games not on FSN West during the season, they play all the Ducks games. With the Ducks being the defending Stanley Cup champions you would think you would want to better serve the SoCal hockey fans. Please add FSN Prime to your lineup. It would be greatly appreciated by Kings and Ducks hockey fans in San Diego County.

Have A Hotdog With Me

Posted in Life, Music, TV on March 20th, 2008 by Drewvis - 1 Comment

Colbert Hot Dog So last night Jordan and I finally stopped to figure out what it says about President Bush during the opening of the Colbert Report. Leave it to Colbert to come up with something like, “President Bush Have A Hot Dog With Me.” I love that show and would love to meet Stephen some day. So if you can help me make it happen, let me know.

If you didn’t know Jordan, Elvia and Myself moved at the beginning of the month into a pretty cool house. We got kicked out of the place we were cause the landlord had family moving to San Diego and they needed somewhere to live so they kicked out some really good tenants. What ever, we got a kick ass house now. It’s a 3 bedroom with 1 bath, HUGE living room and dining room as well as a kitchen that just might be a little too big. We’re gonna have some nice BBQ action going on this summer for sure. Now that we’re all pretty much moved and settled in it’s feeling like home again. There are a few things here and there that still need to be done but for the most part we’re done. One of the great things about the place is we’re walking distance from all the restaurants and such in Hillcrest. Wanna go to Ono Sushi? Park at our place and take a nice 5 min walk and you’re there. Need something from the grocery store? Same deal, 10 minutes there and back. I was going to post some photos of the place but you’ll have to wait to see it at our house warming party. wahh hooo!

Turbonegro Looking forward to the trip to San Francisco i got coming up at the end of April. Flying up in the morning of the 24th and will be staying at the Phoenix hotel that is like 2 blocks from the Great American Music Hall. I’ve always wanted to go to a show there and now i get to. Turbonegro is playing a headlining show there and rather than pay $90 plus a $300 hotel while only getting to see a short set from TRBNGR we decided to fly up to SF. Besides, SF is much nicer than the desert. So yeah, a bunch of the Turbojugend San Diego folks are either driving up or flying up to the bay area for the show. It’s gonna be good. Hopefully Euroboy is feeling better by then and can make the trip.

Bar Pink Elephant I’ve been enjoying my free time now that Thee Corsairs are taking a break for a while and Wendy and I are no longer DJing at the Zombie Lounge. I get to enjoy my days off and not have anything to do. One of the great things I’ve been doing the last few weeks was going to Bar Pink Elephant on Tuesday nights, which is my friday, for Tiki Tuesday. Ami and Andy are working the bar and they both make such good drinks. Must run in the family. haha. Anyway, I’m really starting to like that bar WAY more than any other in town, except Live Wire on Sundays, cause it’s mellow. It’s more of a lounge than anything else. You don’t have music so loud you can’t talk with friends, you don’t get the “this is my bar” type of attitude there. You get nice people there for conversation and drinks with friends. I think that’s why i like it so damn much. You can keep to yourself if you want, but if you hear a conversation and want to get in on it folks are more than happy to have you chime in. Bravo to the folks who own this place, you’ve got yourself a nice little bar for folks to wind down in.

Go Forth And Die!!

Posted in Music, TV on November 28th, 2007 by Drewvis - No Comments

dethklok

I know i’m a bit late on this, but Metalocalypse is probably the best show on tv right now, especially since the whole writers strike is going on and Daily Show and Colbert Report aren’t on. On top of it all the music is pretty damn amazing for a band that’s not real. We’ve been doing Metal Sunday at work for the past few weeks and the Dethklok album has been played almost every week. The creators of the show need to get some sort of award for their work on this.
